Saskia’s Flower Essences

saskia flower essence ingredients‘It wasn’t conscious at all.’ begins Saskia Marjoram, the famed florist and garden designer turned Saskia’s Flower Essences creator, whose past clients include high profile events and royalty. ‘It’s only looking back now I realise there was a reason when I was a florist that I would pick a red flower, a pink one and so forth to put together in an arrangement. I was working with the energy of plants all along – being drawn to certain flowers on an energetic level. And it was only when I started working with essences I began to realise that.’

Amongst today’s booming wellness industry and noisy digital landscape, with a saturation of people claiming to have answers to everything from daily fear and anxiety to larger existential questions, Saskia was well ahead of her time in considering the power of plants, both in recognising their relationships to each other and their vibrational energies which can align our mind and body connection.  Having researched plants and worked with flower presses for decades, it was finally in 2018 that she went full time into creating the range of flower essences, galvanised by the trauma triggering and disconnected modern world.

Having studied and researched much about both the renowned Edward Bach (Bach remedies) and Australian Bush essences, Saskia’s first essence creation was Nans Polyanthus: a powerful essence, ideal for shifting cluttered energy and procrastination. So why is she drawn to certain plants? ‘Well with the first one, Nans Polyanthus, I wanted to see if I could make one as good as the Bach remedies and I gave it to people who found it a lot more beneficial than the Bach one, so from there I knew I could do this full time,’ she adds, ‘it’s important to remember that this was before there was so much information on the internet, so I had to go on books and clients reactions to the essences. Whereas Edward Bach used to see how he was feeling and which plant he was vibrationally drawn to, with me it was more that I had years and years of stuff that needed healing, so it was a case of finding plants in the garden I liked and creating an essence to suit that particular symptom.’

So, choose from an array of appealingly named essences, Calm and Confident, Living Life Lightly, Focus, Energise & Create. As an acute anxiety sufferer myself, often to the point I struggle to leave the house,  I have tried everything from Bach rescue remedy, Australian Bush Flower Essences and all things CBD to little effect, the Saskia’s Calm and Confident drops have become a daily ritual for me: both helping with acute fear over immediate challenges, to the point one is scaring oneself, but also over time taking the edge off and soothing a traumatised nervous system.

So, what’s the actual formulation process?

‘So we actually came up with the names for the essence blends first relating to symptoms and then I used my head and pendulum to find the right plants for those vibrational energies. I take about 3 essences and then dowse to see which ones still want to be in there,’ muses Saskia. Spring water provides the basis of each essence as well as organic vodka ‘you have to have the vodka in the blend to hold the memory in the water during the process as well as the preservatives so when you drop the dropper on your tongue you don’t by mistake hit your tongue and build up bacteria.’ Also research into Edward Bach’s discoveries showed ‘that it is alcohol which fixes the memory but if you drunk that, your body couldn’t hear the message, so he discovered if you dilute it down it gets to the vibration that you when you take the liquid into your body, it can ‘hear’ the vibration of that plant.’ She continues, ‘so if you took oak essence, when you took that liquid into your body, which held the energy of the oak tree, all your body would hear the vibration of the oak tree, so your whole system would relax and ground.’

Saskia equates the vibrational powers of these plants as simply akin to a friend – if you hang out with a friend whose effervescent and joyful, you become more like them and if you surround with quiet, introverted types you become more like them.

Saskia’s Flower Essences now comprise blends, single essences, mists, balms and bath oils and even a new men’s essence range. She continues to delve into research about plants ‘it’s like a relationship with a human, there’s always more to know.’

As we carry so much trauma in our body stored over years and years, this is often a lifetime’s work that these mini bottles of magic can work with us on: ‘someone once asked me what plants can teach us? And my answer is to be the truest version of ourselves we can be at all times.’

With other essence blends including Shock Release, Sexy and Gorgeous, Speaking with Confidence, there’s an essence to accompany you with most inner traumas or challenges and at just £4.00, it’s a win win.
