Refreshingly, British born, Zia Din created Mozaique Beauty, a luxury skincare, hair, body and makeup range not from a beauty based eureka moment but a profound sense of a lack of connection and soul filling luxury in our fast paced, social media era. The result is a curated range of ‘botanical intelligence meets clinical grade efficacy’ products that speak to the individual as well as delivering transformative results.
‘Mozaique Beauty started as an idea quietly during one of the most difficult chapters of my life,’ explains founder Zia Din. ‘Everything from fashion, beauty, self-expression seemed soulless; beauty products felt so science driven and marketed around ‘fixing us.’ So, Zia quietly began travelling the world to meet manufacturers and test his own formulations designed to be minimalist but nourishing and restorative to the skin; aimed at giving individuals a chance to connect with their own experiences and stories through the product line (which now also includes bodycare, makeup and haircare).
So Mozaique Beauty creates experience driven products that always balance ‘emotional expression with clinically sound’ formulations. Expect plenty of enticing botanical actives, such as calendula, green tea, bakuchiol and tremella mushroom extract backed by the science of a team of dermatologists and cosmetic chemists in each formulation. All Mozaique Beauty products are also COSMOS and ECOCERT certified, and veg, cruelty free, and tested on sensitive skin.
What was the first formulation created? ‘The Gentle Cleansing Milk. At the time my own skin was reactive from stress, over exfoliation and too many trendy actives so we chose ingredients known for centuries but added some modern refinement,’ begins Zia, ‘you will find aloe vera, calendula extract, sweet almond oil & glycerin, vitamin E and lactic acid. Together they are anti-inflammatory, calming, nourishing, hydrating, support the skin barrier and balance PH levels all in one product.’
As someone who has never tried invasive treatments and has reactive skin to harsh ingredients, such as stripping retinol, but wants to support ageing skin, I was drawn to both the ‘Botox-like Peptide Serum’ and the ‘Natural Retinol Alternative.’ Zia adds that was the core of the product to mirror the efficacy of the non-natural alternatives with only natural ingredients, ‘the Natural Retinol Alternative serum is built around bakuchiol (nature’s retinol) but we’ve enriched it with Sea Buckthorn oil (rich in Omega 7), Rosehip Oil (high in Vit A, C), Bisabolol (calming compound from chamomile) so it’s a skin healer with performance benefits,’ he explains. ‘The Botox-like peptide serum is powered by Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (a breakthrough peptide that helps visibly soften expression lines by relaxing the tension beneath the skin’s surface) but we’ve also added hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, pentylene glycol so you get hydration, plumping, moisture delivery and skin barrier protection too!’ All products also go through testing with dermatologists as to how they can best reach deeper levels of the skin cell epidermis.
So why did Zia decide to work across across bodycare, haircare and makeup too and how do the products seamlessly work together? ‘It definitely wasn’t about developing more products but I wanted to create a universe that was intentional and emotionally connected. It’s always about botanical intelligence with clinical grade efficacy so expect to see the fore mentioned tremella mushroom extract in both the hydrating face cream and body elixir for example.’
Mozaique puts sustainability at the forefront aiming to get back to ‘the hand,’ so working with smallholder farms, small batches, and eco-conscious harvesting methods to obtain the highest quality raw ingredients across the globe.
Zia concludes, ‘Mozaique Beauty is about creating a ritual that returns us home to ourselves. Whatever we create, it’s an invitation to honour your skin, body, story and your space in the world. That I believe is the highest form of luxury.’
