Kalmar Lifestyle

Q: Who is Davina Catt in a nutshell?

A: A writer, director, model and most definitely a curious person.

Q: What are you working on at the moment and where are you travelling to next?

A: I have recently completed a long and intense 2 year project that consisted of writing, directing and presenting a documentary which has been featured both in cinemas and online. I am currently taking some “me” time to travel, especially now that I have a new project lined up (no rest for the wicked!) As for my next destination, I am going to visit some friends in Rajasthan in India!

Q: Where is your favourite beach destination and tell us about an unforgettable destination you have been to recently?

A: Not sure if this counts as I haven’t been there yet but I absolutely must share; I stumbled upon a one of a kind story about the “Taylor Camp” – a small settlement built on the tiny, Hawaiian island of Kauai (owned by the brother of movie star Elizabeth Taylor) in 1969 by a small group of hippies seeking refuge from the riots and brutality in the US at the time.

I was able to talk to a documentarian who was the only person to gain access into the camp at the time. He photographed the sequence of events and ultimately produced an award winning film about it all.  He has invited me to go and stay where this historical event happened and I don’t know what I am waiting for!

Q: Which 3 items absolutely cannot be left out of your suitcase and why?

A: I can’t travel anywhere without my “Twisted Iris” fragrance, which was created especially for me by my friend Azzi Glasser, a bespoke perfumer. I also always take my Shellbound London shell-based petal ring made in Marrakech, as well as my rose quartz crystal rock given to me by a vortex healer I regularly visit.

Q: What is the most important thing to consider when packing clothing for a holiday? And how would you turn a daytime outfit into eveningwear?

A: Save yourself space by working out which pieces are versatile and could be worn multiple times by being styled in different ways. Transform Elevate looks for evening with glamorous jewellery such as Kalmar’s serpent earrings and a red lip!  Makes all the difference!

Q: What’s your favourite piece from the Kalmar SS19 collection?

A: It’s really hard to choose, it’s such a rounded and beautiful collection with something for everyone. However if I really had to pick one, I would go for the Soraya kaftan: the sheer black fabric with dalmatian ties is so me – simple, sexy, yet sophisticated.

Q: How would you describe Kalmar in 3 words?

A: Feminine, sophisticated, relatable.

Q: How do you define wellbeing?

A: Contentment.

Q: What is the key to a perfect health and beauty regime?

A: Finding a few key products that work for you, whilst keeping in mind that less is more. I completely avoid all preservatives in beauty products.

Q: At Kalmar our priority is to make women feel themselves and at ease in our designs. Do you think brands are generally adapting to changing fashion perceptions and moving towards promoting body confidence?

A: I think holding onto yourself and a sense of who you really are has been one of the most difficult side effects of the digital and social media age. It seems that women are expected to be flawless.  It’s such an unrealistic and unhealthy expectation, particularly for perfectionists like myself.  However I think that brands are recognising the fact that they need to shift fashion perceptions. But I believe that in today’s world, the change starts mostly with the woman/consumer herself.  If as women we can be a little kinder and more supportive of each other, it will ignite change on a larger platform.

Q: A woman who inspires you and why?

A: I am inspired by women who have had to fight the fight in life, face insurmountable hurdles and use creativity to shape their future – I am currently re-reading the diaries of Anais Nin; everything she says still resonates with me today.
